Biography
Jihwon Na is a dedicated cellist and educator with over 15 years of teaching experience, working with students of all ages and levels. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) at Stony Brook University and has previously earned degrees from the Mannes School of Music with high honors.
Jihwon has taught at Stony Brook University, Seoul Music School, Long Island Music Institute, Arete Music Academy, Eastern School of Music, and the Park Conservatory of Music, among others. She specializes in both classical and jazz repertoire, preparing students for NYSSMA competitions, orchestral auditions, and solo performances. Many of her students have successfully auditioned for All-State, All-County, and regional youth orchestras. She tailors her teaching approach to each student’s needs, focusing on technical excellence, musical expression, and confidence-building.
As a performer, Jihwon has played in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Staller Center for the Arts, and Stiefel Concert Hall. She has served as principal cellist for the New Manhattan Sinfonietta at Carnegie Hall, Mannes Orchestra, Regina Opera, and Ensemble 212, and has performed in numerous chamber music festivals and ensembles.
Her contributions to music have been recognized with multiple awards and scholarships, including a full scholarship at Stony Brook University, the Mannes School of Music merit scholarship, and top prizes at the KRB New York International Music Competition and Busan Music Society Competition.
Jihwon is passionate about nurturing the next generation of musicians, helping students develop strong technical foundations while fostering a love for music. Her commitment to both performance and education makes her a sought-after teacher and mentor in the cello community.
