Biography

Jay Ojala is a dedicated and highly experienced music educator and pianist with over a decade of teaching experience across private studios, university settings, and community music schools. Jay has a particular passion for working with young children and is known for their remarkable patience, encouraging demeanor, and ability to make lessons fun, inspiring, and tailored to each student’s interests and personality.

Jay believes that every child has the potential to enjoy and understand music deeply. In lessons, they combine strong technical training with imaginative and playful teaching methods that keep students engaged and motivated. From the very first class, Jay focuses on creating a positive, nurturing environment where children feel confident to express themselves through music.

In addition to piano technique and repertoire, Jay incorporates ear training, music theory, and creative improvisation into lessons to build well-rounded musicianship. They also have extensive experience preparing students for NYSSMA exams, recitals, and competitions—always supporting students in setting goals and celebrating progress.

Jay’s approach is not just about learning notes and rhythms; it’s about helping students find joy in music and giving them the tools to make it a lifelong companion. Their ability to connect with both children and parents makes them a trusted and beloved teacher in every learning community they join.
